It was originally all one piece, but I decided to slip the cushions individually...

This way I can wash the cushion covers individually as needed. Up til this point I was just using my beloved Folex to spot clean it, and that stuff is fantastic, but over time the whole cover needed to be washed, or at least the seats did.
My other reason for deciding to go ahead and upgrade this slip was all the last minute tucking before guests arrived! Now that the cushions are slipped individually, my tucking days are gone!
The original cover is still completely in tact- the part that used to go over the cushions now goes under them. I intended to add a little velcro to the sofa frame under the cushions to keep everything in place, and I may still do that, but so far it hasn't shifted and I haven't had to re-tuck once!

ReplyDeleteIt looks great - much more tailored. I make lots of loose covers for clients and have a little tip that helps to keep the tuck-ins tucked in! Use a length of narrow, foam, pipe insulation pushed well into the tuck-ins to keep them in place. It's flexible so easy to push in, and quite grippy, so it stops the cover coming un-tucked in use.

ReplyDeleteI am not a sewer, but I sure want to become one so I can make slipcovers for 2 of our couches and a wing-back chair. Probably an ottoman or two as well. Maybe I should try out an ottoman first to see if I'm hopeless. Thank you for showing all the steps you went thru to create your slipcovers! They're lovely!

Where do you suggest getting fabric? ... Do drop cloths come out the same? Or duck cloth? or does it have to be upholstery weight?
